What initial information is required for the hot work permit application?

The initial information required includes the contractor's company name, a description of the work and area of work, and the reference number for the permit application. This ensures clear identification and documentation of the hot work being performed.

What steps should be taken on total fire ban days?

If the work is being done on a total fire ban day, you must obtain a permit from the local fire authority. Attach the local fire authority permit to the application and indicate the total fire ban days applicable (e.g., Monday, Tuesday).

What precautions must be taken before starting hot work?

Verify that the area is clear of combustible material, combustible floors and walls are shielded from flames or sparks, and a fire extinguisher is located in the work area. Ensure flashback arresters are fitted to all oxy equipment, personal protective equipment (PPE) such as eyewear and gloves are available, welding screens are available, and oxy and acetylene bottles are adequately secured in a cradle and remain upright.

How should additional precautions be documented?

List any other or additional precautions that are necessary for the specific hot work being performed. This ensures all safety measures are in place to prevent accidents or incidents during the work.
